Landscape Architecture

Coming to the University of Maryland my major was undecided and I spent the first couple semesters exploring my interests and discovering what I really wanted to study. Being in the Media, Self, and Society Scholars program allowed me to explore and develop my interest in media and communications, but I decided to eventually take my major in a different direction. Scholars continues to give me an outlet to explore media as part of my college curriculum while providing me with knowledge and skills that will be useful in my daily life.

Landscape architecture is a profession that designs outdoor environments and requires knowledge in several topics such as art and the environment to create successful designs. I enjoy the Landscape Architecture program at UMD because it teaches skills that will directly be used in the practice of a landscape architect. My interests in art, the environment, design, and community are all able to apply to the field. It was challenging at first to decide what I wanted to commit my undergraduate career to, but I am happy with my decision and excited to continue to develop my skills and knowledge as a landscape architect.

Our final project used an accumulation of skills learned throughout the semester to redesign the Animal Sciences Courtyard. My design was based on the concept of Science, technology, and discovery to create a functional and inspiring space on campus.
